Barry lives with his parents and little sister Cleo in New Orleans. Like most people in his neighborhood, his family doesn’t pay attention to the warnings on the radio about the hurricane until there are mandatory evacuations. His family spends several hours on the road, barely moving while Cleo is sick with a stomach virus. They decide to return home to ride out the storm. When the storm hits their house, all the family has to huddle on the roof together, but Barry falls off into the water. Will he survive to see his family again?

Mom Says:

This is a really great series. Although it is fiction, it is a fantastic way to teach kids about historical events, and I wish I had these books when I was in school! The girls really got interested in several of these and we got additional books to research the various events in the series.
